The former Namyeong-dong Anti-Communist Investigation Office tennis court, which was once a symbol of state violence, is transforming into a cultural and arts space for citizens. The Minju-hwa-un-dong-gi-nyeom-sa-eop-hoe announced that it will host the '2nd Democracy and Human Rights Film Festival' at the Democracy Movement Memorial Hall for three days from Friday, September 11, to Sunday, September 13.
New Open Call and Film Selection
This year's film festival has introduced an open call for submissions for the first time since its launch. A total of 637 entries were submitted during the call held from June 15 to July 16, and 27 finalists that passed the preliminary round will meet the audience. The finalists deal with issues of democracy and human rights in daily life, such as labor, disability, migration, and housing. A total of 37 films, including 10 invited works, will be screened for free during all sessions.
Main Programs and Viewing Information
During the film festival period, cine-talks featuring cultural critic Son Hee-jung and film YouTuber 'Geoui-eopda' will be held. To reduce noise inconvenience, a 'silent screening' using Bluetooth headsets will be introduced at the outdoor screening venue. In addition, side events such as one-day classes and exhibition stamp tours are prepared.
