SBS 'Culture Relay' presents a two-part special documentary to mark the 20th anniversary of the 'Daewon Music Awards'.
From its establishment in 2006 to the present day, the 20-year history of the 'Daewon Music Awards' is itself a vivid Archive of the miraculous changes achieved by our classical music scene. This special goes beyond mere records of an awards ceremony to coolly and multidimensionally illuminate the trajectory of 'radical growth' achieved as Korean classical music leaped from the periphery to the mainstream of the world.
Starting from the supreme artistic spirits of masters Jung Myung-whun and Baek Gun-woo, who pioneered the barren land of Korean classical music, and moving through the Korea National University of Arts music school system—a victory of the Korean-style Youngjae education system that nurtures world-class talent without studying abroad—the program will capture at a glance the generational growth flow of K-Classic, including the Syndrome generation such as SKULL, Yunchan Lim, Kim Sun-wook, and Son Yeol-eum, who are dominating the world stage today.
The program will introduce not only the intense tension on stage that allows for not a single error and the rehearsal scenes, but also in-depth interviews with 12 past winners who confess, "To me, the 'Daewon Music Awards' was not a reward, but trust toward the next 20 years." Furthermore, it will examine which points we must now aim for to promise the proud yesterday and the brilliant future of K-Classic.
The stories of the yesterday, today, and tomorrow of K-Classic, told directly by its representatives—Kim Dae-jin, Shin Soo-jung, Baek Gun-woo, Unsuk Chin, Kim Sun-wook, Kim Seo-hyun, Seong-Won Sunwoo, Samuel Yoon, Inmo Yang, Son Yeol-eum, Jeong Jae-wal, Jung Myung-whun, and Choi Su-yeol—can be found on 'Culture Relay', which airs on SBS tonight (10th) at 12:20 AM.
