Yeongam-gun will host the ‘2026 Kim Chang-jo Sanjo Festival’ from September 11 to 12. Under the slogan ‘Flowing Sanjo,’ this event consists of 12 programs encompassing the traditional succession and modern experimentation of Sanjo.
Participating Artists and Main Locations
A total of 27 domestic and international artists will participate in this festival. The event will be held at four locations, including the Gayageum Sanjo Memorial Hall, the Korea Trot Song Center, Wolchulsan Gichan Land Bitchan Plaza, and the Yeongam-gun Youth Center, and all programs can be viewed for free.
Main Program Composition
The festival begins with an opening ceremony held on the morning of the 11th at the Wolchulsan Gichan Land Bitchan Plaza. It will be followed by generational Sanjo performances, such as Master Won Jang-hyeon's Sanjo stage, Lee Jiyoung's full Gayageum Sanjo, and Won Na-gyeong's Haegeum Sanjo. Additionally, diverse experimental stages have been prepared, including the ‘Mumu (霧舞/無巫)’ performance utilizing electric guitar and special lectures comparing string instruments from Korea, China, and Japan.
Academic Forums and Transportation Information
Two forums themed around the transmission and creation of Sanjo will be broadcast live through the official YouTube channel. For the convenience of visitors, a free shuttle bus will operate from Naju Station to the festival venues, and a detailed timetable can be found on the official website.
