Yoon Go-eun's EBS Book Cafe Wins Special Award for Proper Broadcast Language; Celebrates 7th Anniversary on the 26th

EBS FM 'Yoon Go-eun's EBS Book Cafe' (hosted by Yoon Go-eun) announced on the 26th that it has received the '2026 First Half Special Award for Proper Broadcast Language' from the Korea Communications Standards Commission.

The winning work is the 'Book Cafe Poetry Contest' special from the regular corner 'Overworking Poets,' which aired on April 7. The segment was conducted in a format where listeners sent poems they wrote themselves via text message or the Bandi app, and poets read and critiqued them on air. Poets Kim So Yeon and Kim Sang-hyuk read and shared poetic critiques of hundreds of stories gathered under two themes: 'Back View' and 'Jump.'

The lines by Sim, who was selected as the grand prize winner—"While giving birth to you, my hair grew and covered my back. I will cry and grow following your back view"—and by 9, "Spring is a great blessing for the beginning of spring, let us rather pray to the god we know; my back view bowing with meager devotion"—were chosen as masterpieces. In particular, the latter was introduced as an example that demonstrates both the dignity of broadcast language and contemporary sensibility by placing the pure Korean adjective 'meager' (allang-hada) alongside a traditional idiom.

Listener Reactions and Production Team Impressions

Immediately after the broadcast, reactions such as "It felt so good to touch the feeling of writing poetry after a long time" and "There was a sense of pride in writing something through my own strength without relying on AI" continued to pour in via the Bandi app and text messages. One winner shared their impression to the production team, saying, "It felt good to have my writing read and evaluated on the broadcast. It was a time when literature was alive." PD Kang Young-sook, who directed the program, stated, "It has been seven years of choosing sentences rather than noise, and welcoming listeners with literary courtesy rather than evaluation." She added, "I believe this award is a response to the belief that broadcast language can still comfort and grow lives, and we will continue to be 'Yoon Go-eun's Book Cafe' that nurtures the beauty of our language together with our listeners."

Celebrating the 7th Anniversary on the Same Day

First broadcast in 2019, 'Yoon Go-eun's Book Cafe' held a 'Pretty Postcard Contest' event to mark its 7th anniversary on the 26th. About 130 listeners sent congratulatory postcards, and sentences such as "Like a morning glory, which is a soft and delicate flower but blooms with beautiful colors to make the summer morning refreshing, the Book Cafe opening rings like a trumpet" (Ha) and "At some point, it quietly approached my side, stayed consistently, and became a part of my life" (Heo) were introduced.
