Baby Shark Christmas special to hit CGV theaters on December 5
The Pinkfong Company has announced that 'Baby Shark', which has held the number one spot for global YouTube views for 71 consecutive months, will return to theaters with a new film on December 5 at CGV.
The Pinkfong Company will bring Baby Shark to the big screen on December 5 with a new film featuring a sing and dance-along format. The Christmas special includes a special appearance by Baby Shark Boy, who will serve as the on-screen MC for a medley of carols.
The Pinkfong Company announced on the 22nd that 'Baby Shark', which has recorded the number one spot for global YouTube views for 71 consecutive months, is returning to the big screen. 'Baby Shark Christmas Special: Santa Selection Contest' is set to open at CGV on December 5. The released teaser poster and first still cuts provide a first look at the atmosphere of this new work targeting the year-end theater season.
The film tells the story of Baby Shark and friends as they compete in a Santa selection contest held underwater following an injury to Santa Claus. A new character, 'Thief Baby Shark', who wears a black mask and resembles Baby Shark, also appears to create a competitive dynamic. The released images capture a confrontation between the two characters set against an underwater landscape shimmering with aurora lights. As family-oriented content aimed at the year-end season, the film appears to target a wide audience ranging from existing fans to young children.
The work is produced in a "sing and dance-along" format where audiences can enjoy songs and dance together. It also features hybrid directing that combines animation with live-action footage. This represents an attempt to expand beyond simple viewing content into an experiential film by adding elements for direct audience participation.
In the latter half of the film, 'Baby Shark Boy', the boy from the 'Pinkfong Baby Shark Gymnastics' video which has recorded 17.4 billion cumulative views on YouTube, will make a special appearance as the on-screen MC. He will lead the atmosphere of the film by performing a medley of Christmas carols. Additionally, an OST album and limited edition MD are scheduled to be released sequentially. A representative from The Pinkfong Company stated, "We are presenting a Baby Shark Christmas movie that the whole family can enjoy together for the winter vacation and Christmas season," adding, "We will provide special memories through various forms of entertainment that span both on and off the screen."
