Narrative and Characteristics of the Work
Set to the poems of Wilhelm Müller, this work captures the emotional changes experienced by a young miller's apprentice who falls in love, expressed through 20 lyric poems. It unfolds like a drama, from the young man's excitement and anticipation to the jealousy, anxiety, and tragic conclusion caused by the appearance of a hunter. It is a work that concentrates Schubert's unique lyricism, which closely connects nature with the human interior.
