Theater Company Gamagol Stages Play 'Fever', Questioning Human Dignity Amidst Wildfire Disaster, in Daehak-ro

The new play 'Fever' by Theater Company Gamagol opened on September 4 at the Open Theater in Daehak-ro, Seoul. After its premiere in July as a performance commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Gamagol Small Theater in Busan, this production meets Seoul audiences after enhancing its completeness. Written by Morgan Geon-gang and directed by Kim Ha-yeon, this work will run for a 10-day schedule.

Set against the extreme disaster of a massive wildfire, the play deals with the survival stories of individuals alienated within the capitalist system. The core of the play is the process in which people gathered in an unrealistic space called 'Joseon-guk' to escape the flames explore the possibility of solidarity by sharing each other's body heat. The direction, which contrasts the destructive fire with human warmth, sharply criticizes the numbness of modern civilization. It is evaluated as a meaningful attempt as a future model for regional theater companies entering Seoul, as it increases the density of stage art by combining the assets of regional theater with the contemporary sensibility of Daehak-ro.

Director Kim Ha-yeon stated, "I wanted to contemplate together the meaning of true humanity and the warmth conveyed to one another in a world that has become infinitely hot," adding, "I hope this performance serves as an opportunity to ask and answer why theater is necessary in this era." Actors such as Hwang Geun-bok, Kim Sang-hun, and Im Na-rae appear on stage, delivering performances that confirm human instincts even amidst the crisis of extinction.
