Newspaper 'The Times' to launch on October 15… Chairman Hong Seon-geun: "We will walk the true path of journalism beyond camp logic"

The newspaper 'The Times' held a publication briefing at the Korea Press Center international conference hall in Jung-gu, Seoul, on September 16, announcing its new journalism philosophy and future content strategy. Approximately 220 people, including corporate officials and figures from various sectors, attended the event to show interest in the launch of the new media outlet. 'The Times' is scheduled to publish its first newspaper on October 15.

Chairman Hong Seon-geun of The Times presented the motto "Respected Individuals, Prosperous Republic of Korea" and revealed a vision to become a media outlet that contributes to national development. Chairman Hong explained, "The Times was started from the contemplation of trying to properly maintain the position of the press by breaking away from political camps." He also emphasized that corporations determine the fate of the national economy and expressed his ambition to lay the foundation for an era of $70,000 GDP per capita.

CEO Oh Byeong-sang of The Times put forward 'deliberative media' as a core strategy. CEO Oh stated that providing accurate information is the first task of the press, emphasizing that the outlet will go beyond merely raising issues to become a medium that seeks continuous discussion and solutions. Chief Editor Jeong Yong-gwan expressed the will to speak out without avoiding even politically sensitive issues by presenting the principles of public good, empathy, and a consistent standard for opinion.

Editor-in-Chief Lee Sang-eon of The Times announced the reporting principle of boldly delivering necessary stories even if they are uncomfortable. He added that they would not stop at raising problems but would carefully present them to the world to find solutions. Meanwhile, Professor Lee Jun-hwan of the Department of Communication at Seoul National University, who gave a special lecture, analyzed that the competitiveness of the press in the age of artificial intelligence lies in 'trust.' Professor Lee noted that the role of the press is shifting from information delivery to information discernment, citing verification, transparency, and responsibility as key elements of trust.

In his closing remarks, Chairman Hong Seon-geun expressed his hope that 'The Times' would establish itself as a media outlet trusted by the market and readers. Chairman Hong emphasized, "It will not be an easy path, but we will fulfill our duty as the press and become a jewel-like media with a light green glow."
