KBS’s Walk Expedition explores Rajasthan’s five-color cities and the Thar Desert

KBS’s Walk Expedition travels through Rajasthan’s five-color cities and the Thar Desert in its 953rd episode, “Five Colors, India’s Rajasthan.” The program airs Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 9:40 a.m. on KBS 1TV.
The episode follows five colors and five attractions across Rajasthan in northern India, where each city has a distinct hue and each landscape a different story. Its route includes Jaipur, Udaipur, Bishnoi village, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer.
In Jaipur, pink-toned buildings color the city, while palaces and distinctive architecture reflect the history of the Jaipur royal family, which held influence in Rajasthan for a long period. Red buildings, now a city symbol, give the “Pink City” its distinctive character.
Udaipur, known as the “Venice of India,” is a white city whose buildings sit alongside lakes. At night, the episode takes in the city’s varied culture and arts, including performances presented against a setting likened to a white canvas.
Bishnoi village retains green life in Rajasthan’s dry landscape. Its residents follow long-standing traditions of valuing nature and animals, and the program visits a place where people and nature coexist.
Jodhpur is known as the “Blue City” for its many blue buildings. One account says blue was used to distinguish Brahmin homes from those of other groups. The episode also meets residents who offer smiles and hospitality to unfamiliar travelers.
In Jaisalmer, whose cityscape glows gold, the Thar Desert begins beyond the city walls. Once an important trade route, the desert is explored by camel, and traditional performances by itinerant performers fill the dark desert night. The episode presents the contrast between the bright golden desert by day and its pitch-black night, as it experiences a night in Jaisalmer.
