Catenoid's Kollus LIVE launches real-time subtitles in 7 languages and Korean-English translation support
Catenoid has officially launched AI-based real-time Speech-to-Text (STT) subtitles and automatic translation features for its cloud-based live streaming platform, Kollus LIVE. The feature supports multiple languages and aims to improve accessibility for global viewers while reducing content operation costs for businesses.
Catenoid (CEO Kim Hyeong-seok), South Korea's largest Video Technology as a Service (VTaaS) company, has officially launched AI Speech-to-Text (STT) based real-time subtitles and automatic translation functions on its cloud-based live streaming platform, 'Kollus LIVE'.
As the use of live streaming increases in various fields such as corporate webinars, online education, and public events, the demand for subtitle support for viewers in different language groups is also growing. Accordingly, Catenoid introduced this feature to Kollus LIVE to improve the viewing environment and increase the content operation efficiency of corporate customers. The feature is characterized by the AI recognizing voices occurring during live broadcasts in real time to generate subtitles and automatically providing translated subtitles as well.
Real-time subtitles support various languages, including Korean, English, Japanese, Chinese (Simplified), as well as Spanish, French, and Vietnamese. It can recognize speech even when Korean and English are mixed, and by providing original language subtitles and translated subtitles simultaneously, overseas viewers can easily understand the broadcast content. Translated subtitles are initially provided in Korean and English, and there are plans to sequentially expand the supported languages according to customer demand in the future.
Kollus LIVE's AI real-time subtitles reduce the time and cost burden of subtitle production compared to manual methods. After the broadcast ends, SRT subtitle files for each language are provided in a compressed file (.zip) format, so there is no need to produce subtitles separately when using the live video for Video on Demand (VOD).
Viewing convenience and user experience (UX) have also been improved. Viewers can directly select whether to display subtitles and the language in the Kollus Player. The subtitle display area is automatically adjusted up to 3 lines depending on the length of the subtitle, minimizing the phenomenon of subtitles obscuring the video screen.
Kim Hyeong-seok, CEO of Catenoid, said, "As live streaming rapidly expands into various fields such as education, corporate events, public sectors, and commerce, the importance of subtitle and translation functions that help anyone understand broadcasts without language barriers is growing. Kollus LIVE's AI real-time subtitle and translation functions will reduce the content operation burden of our clients by supporting everything from providing real-time subtitles during broadcasts to utilizing them for VOD after the broadcast."
Meanwhile, Catenoid's 'Kollus LIVE' is a no-code-based infrastructure platform that provides the entire process of live streaming, including live video recording and transmission apps, channel broadcasting, redundant streaming, real-time chat, and secure players.
