EBS <Special Lecture to Youth>, a program for out-of-school youth and young adults, will be broadcast on EBS 1TV on Sunday, August 30 at 11:55 AM. In this episode, star chef Choi Hyun Seok will appear to share his experience of living as a chef for over 30 years and his own culinary philosophy.

Part 1, From the First Kitchen to Establishing Himself as a Chef

Choi Hyun Seok reveals that during his childhood, he had various dreams such as being a Robot Tae-gwon V pilot, a pilot, a gospel singer, and a martial artist, but he could not decide on a clear career path. He shares the story of the first day he entered a kitchen due to the encouragement of his family members who were chefs, and the process of growing as a chef while enduring difficult times. He cites meeting a 'good mentor' as the greatest luck in his culinary life, stating that learning basic habits such as organization and frugality from his strict mentor has been a great help until now. Furthermore, he conveys the charm of cooking by saying, "Cooking is basically a profession that makes others happy," and "The happiness of others becomes my joy." Based on his experience of only becoming clear about what he truly wanted to do in his late thirties, he advises young people not to be impatient and to try various experiences.

Part 2, 130 Challenges and the Attitude Toward Failure

Choi Hyun Seok shares that he has constantly challenged himself with new dishes, such as developing new menus every month and making a single dish 130 times. "The person who has done it even one more time unconditionally wins," he says, emphasizing that although he has experienced numerous failures, it is important to keep trying without fearing failure. On this day, out-of-school youth dreaming of becoming chefs were also present as the audience, and Choi Hyun Seok gave advice based on his own experience to the student's questions, cheering them on by saying, "You don't have to rush."

EBS <Special Lecture to Youth> is held in cooperation with the Federation of Korean Industries (FKI), Hana Financial Group, and the Korea Youth Counseling & Welfare Institute, and is broadcast every Sunday at 11:55 AM on EBS 1TV, and on Saturdays and Sundays at 12:40 PM on EBS 2TV.
