EBS 'Learning AI for the First Time' will present the second lecture of 'Episode 14 – Science' through EBS 1TV on Thursday, the 3rd, at 9:20 AM. This broadcast focuses on moving away from learning where students merely find correct answers and instead focuses on cultivating scientific thinking skills by asking questions and exploring on their own.

Discrepancy Between Science Achievement and Interest

According to the 'Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) 2023', the science achievement of 4th-grade elementary students in South Korea ranks 2nd out of 58 countries, and 2nd-grade middle school students rank 4th out of 44 countries, placing them at the top of the world. However, interest in science does not keep pace with achievement. 28% of 4th-grade elementary students and 44% of 2nd-grade middle school students responded that they do not like science, and the number of middle school students who responded that they lack confidence in science reached 66%. Experts analyze that this phenomenon stems from a learning environment focused heavily on finding correct answers.

Questioning Partnership Using AI

Professor Won Seung-hyun of the School of Health and Environmental Convergence Science at Korea University will appear as an instructor to introduce methods for utilizing AI as a 'questioning partner.' Instead of simply asking AI for answers, students practice expanding their thinking by posing 'What if?' assumptions or follow-up questions. For example, starting from the question 'What if stones held a boxing tournament?', they experience the joy of inquiry by creating a game called 'Stone-Stone Battle Expedition' that compares and verifies the characteristics of stones.
