The Seongbuk Cultural Foundation will host the third "Memories of the Region" film screening on October 30 at Arirang Cine Center. The event features five films produced through a new regular university course and includes two sessions of director talks.

The Seongbuk Cultural Foundation (CEO Seo No-won) will host the 3rd "Memories of the Region" film screening on October 30 at 2:00 p.m. at Arirang Indie Wave within the Arirang Cine Center, in collaboration with the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, Korea National University of Arts (President Pyeon Jang-wan) (Director Choi Yong-bae).

This screening will feature five films produced with Seongbuk as the setting, accompanied by "Guest Artist Talks (GV)" with the directors of the works.

Now in its third year, "Memories of the Region" is a regional-university cooperation project pursued by the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation and the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, Korea National University of Arts. The project aims to discover and record the history, culture, places, and stories of Seongbuk through the perspectives of young creators. Having started as a pilot project in 2024, the collaboration has continued for three years. Notably, this year, it was newly established as a regular course titled "Region-Based Creative Project" at the School of Film, TV & Multimedia, Korea National University of Arts, establishing a continuous foundation for regional-university cooperation by linking education with creation. This screening presents works completed through this regular curriculum to the local community.

The screening will feature five films: "A Pigeon Nesting in the Pheasant's Sea" directed by Jeong Jin-a, "Road-Sound" directed by Kim Gwi-hyeon and Yoon Chae-won, "Wishing You Luck" directed by Jeong Jin-hyeok, "The Path at My Fingertips" directed by Kim Si-hyeon and Ha Hyeon-jin, and "Garlic Sprouts by the Fence" directed by Lee Hyeon-ju and Hwang Mu-cho.

Two sessions of "Guest Artist Talks (GV)" are scheduled following the screenings. The first session, moderated by documentary producer Kang Jin-seok, will feature the directors of "A Pigeon Nesting in the Pheasant's Sea," "Road-Sound," and "Wishing You Luck." The second session, moderated by film critic Son Si-nae, will feature the directors of "The Path at My Fingertips" and "Garlic Sprouts by the Fence" meeting with the audience to share the stories and production processes behind their works.

Works produced through the "Memories of the Region" project over the past three years have continued to achieve results at domestic film festivals. The 2024 production "When the Tree Sways, the Heart Comes" (directed by Lee Ji-yoon) was officially invited to the Korean Short Film Competition at the 26th Jeonju International Film Festival, while "The Altitude of the Boundary" (directed by Kim Hyeon-won, Yoon Byeong-hyeon, and Hong Yu-ra) and "Dongsanbachi" (directed by Kim Seong-won and Jeong Yun-ji) were officially selected for the 3rd Sparkling Documentary Festival. The 2025 production "Miarigogae Pass" (directed by Kwon A-yeong) has also been selected for the short film competition at the 2026 DMZ International Documentary Film Festival.

The Seongbuk Cultural Foundation stated that the cooperation, which began as a pilot project, is highly significant as it has extended to a regular university course this year. As students recorded stories discovered by walking through Seongbuk and meeting its people, the foundation hopes this screening will serve as an opportunity to encounter the places and people of Seongbuk, which are often passed by familiarly, through the fresh perspectives of young creators.

The Seongbuk Cultural Foundation plans to continue its sustainable regional-university cooperation system by connecting the educational and creative capabilities of universities, including Korea National University of Arts, with the cultural resources of Seongbuk, allowing for learning and creation based on the region and sharing those results back with the local community.

The screening is free of charge, and any citizen wishing to attend can participate by applying in advance. Applications are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis via an online application form, and further details can be found on the Seongbuk Cultural Foundation website (www.sbculture.or.kr).

The Seongbuk Cultural Foundation operates various cultural facilities, including libraries, cinemas, art museums, performance halls, education centers, and cultural centers. Under the mission of "A city enriched by culture, Seongbuk," it leads the way in improving the lives and culture of Seongbuk residents and strengthening the community through various programs and cultural policies, such as representing regional festivals and revitalizing living culture and visual arts.
